One Woman's academic journey through a course in: "Tasting the Sweets of Liberty: Counterfeiting, Fraud, and Authorship in the Print Culture of the Early Republic."
The Purpose of this Blog . . .
This semester I intend to record my academic journey through my Early American Print Culture class entitled: "Tasting the Sweets of Liberty: Counterfeiting, Fraud, and Authorship in the Print Culture of the Early Republic." I will post weekly reading responses to my class readings on the memoirs of Early American counterfeiters, counterfeit narratives, and the theories of Mikhail Bakhtin. By this method, I hope to contextualize my studies in a medium that will enhance my understanding and my memory. Please feel free to "worship at the altar" and enter the conversation.
The Origin of My Title
For those interested, the title "Worshipping at the Altar of Venus" comes from the frequent use of the phrase by Early American newspapermen when describing man's tendency towards bigamy and adultry.
Fellow Counterfeiters (cough) um . . . Bloggers in my Early American Journey
I am a married mom and Ph.D. student at TCU. I juggle dogs, cats, kids, and a husband - in addition to all my students, classwork, scholarly pursuits, and the occasional moment of frivilous fun. My academic interests are varied, and I am currently trying to narrow my focus. Meanwhile, I love to teach, and I am enjoying the "journey" This is my home on the web.
